Local coverage

## Scaffolding across East and West Sussex
Sussex sits directly south of our Hadlow yard, and the A21, A26 and A22 put a large part of the county within a comfortable working distance. We regularly scaffold in Crowborough, Uckfield, East Grinstead, Wadhurst, Heathfield, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Lewes and along the coast through Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne and Hastings. Our recent coastal work includes balcony and elevation scaffolding on the apartment blocks at Brighton Marina.

Sussex property is unusually mixed for a single county. The High Weald villages north of the Downs are full of tile-hung and weatherboarded cottages, oast houses and timber-framed listed buildings that need careful tying and protection. Move south and you meet Victorian and Regency terraces in Brighton, Hove and Eastbourne, seafront blocks with balconies and render, and large post-war and new-build estates around Crawley, Burgess Hill and Bexhill.

Coastal exposure changes how a scaffold has to be designed. Salt-laden wind coming off the Channel loads a sheeted or netted scaffold far harder than the same structure inland, so tie patterns, bracing and sheeting decisions are made for the site rather than copied from a standard drawing. On seafront and clifftop properties we often reduce sheeting and increase ties rather than the other way round.

Conservation areas and listed buildings are common right across Sussex, particularly in Lewes, Rye, the Brighton Regency squares and the High Weald villages. Where a property is listed or in a conservation area we scaffold with non-marking protection at bearing points, avoid drilled ties where an alternative works, and keep the structure as visually contained as the works allow.

Town-centre and seafront jobs almost always involve a highway or pavement licence from the relevant council; East Sussex County Council, West Sussex County Council or the unitary Brighton & Hove City Council. We apply for those licences, arrange pedestrian protection where a footpath is affected, and plan deliveries around parking restrictions and busy seafront traffic.

Everything else works exactly as it does in Kent: a free site survey, a written quote back within one working day, six weeks' hire included as standard, RAMS and scaff tags on site, weekly inspections recorded, and a dismantle booked as soon as your trades are finished.

### Weald villages and coastal towns
We work the High Weald villages north of the Downs and the coastal belt from Brighton through to Hastings, adapting the scaffold design to each.

### Wind and salt exposure planned for
Coastal and clifftop scaffolds get their tie pattern, bracing and sheeting decided for the exposure on that site, not a standard configuration.

### Licences with the right council
East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove all licence highway scaffolds differently; we handle the application for whichever applies.

### Free survey, quote within a day
We visit, measure up and send a written, itemised price back within one working day.

Every scaffolder is CISRS-carded, with CITB training in working at heights, manual handling, scaffold inspection and asbestos awareness.

### £10 million insured
£10 million public liability and £10 million employers' liability, confirmed in writing for managing agents and main contractors.

### Six weeks' hire as standard
Every scaffold includes a six-week hire period, which covers most re-roofs, extensions and renovation programmes.

### We beat genuine written quotes
Send us a genuine written quote from another Sussex scaffolder and we will price against it.

### Clean and considerate
Materials stacked tidily, pavements kept clear, neighbours spoken to; the reason people call us the posh scaffolders.

Local conditions

## Common Sussex scaffolding challenges
The county's geography creates access problems you rarely meet further inland.

### Exposed coastal wind loading
Seafront and clifftop elevations take heavy wind loading, so sheeting and netting decisions have to be balanced against tie capacity.

### Listed and conservation properties
Listed cottages, oast houses and Regency terraces need protected bearing points and tying methods that don't damage historic fabric.

### Narrow lanes in the Weald
Village lanes around Wadhurst, Mayfield and Ticehurst are often single track, so deliveries are timed and vehicles sized to suit.

### Seafront pavement licences
Promenade and town-centre elevations usually need a highway licence and pedestrian protection before anything goes up.

### Sloping and soft ground
Downland slopes and soft coastal ground need proper sole boards, base plates and levelled footings rather than improvised packing.

### Terraces with no rear access
Brighton, Hove and Hastings terraces frequently have no side return, so the scaffold has to be built and loaded from the street.

Common questions

## Scaffolding In SussexQuestions Answered
Still unsure? Ring 07355 037000 and speak to Katie or Mason directly, or use the contact form.

Do you cover the whole of Sussex?+We cover East and West Sussex, including Crowborough, Uckfield, East Grinstead, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Lewes, Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne and Hastings. If you are further west than Chichester, ring us anyway; we travel for the right job.

How far is Sussex from your yard?+Our yard is in Five Oak Green near Tonbridge, and the A21, A26 and A22 put most of Sussex within a straightforward run for a survey, a build and any return visits during the hire.

How much does scaffolding cost in Sussex?+It depends on the elevations, the height, access and whether a highway licence is needed. Every quote follows a free site survey and comes back in writing within one working day.

Do I need a licence for scaffolding on a Sussex pavement?+Yes. If the scaffold stands on a pavement or road you need a licence from East Sussex, West Sussex or Brighton & Hove, depending on the address. We apply for it as part of the job.

Can you scaffold listed buildings and conservation areas?+Yes. We protect bearing points, avoid drilled ties where an alternative works, and keep the scaffold footprint as contained as the works allow.

Do you handle coastal and exposed sites?+We do. Tie patterns, bracing and sheeting are specified for the exposure on that particular site rather than a standard arrangement.

How long is the scaffold hired for?+Six weeks is included as standard on every scaffold we erect. If the works run longer we simply agree an extension.

Are you insured for work in Sussex?+Yes, £10 million public liability and £10 million employers' liability, and we are happy to send the certificates to agents or main contractors.

Do you offer emergency scaffolding in Sussex?+Yes. Storm damage and dangerous structures are made safe with a fast response, day or night; the phone is answered out of hours.

Do you provide RAMS and inspection records?+Always. RAMS, scaff tags and weekly inspection records come as standard on every job, domestic or commercial.
