In detail ## How we approach painting and decorating scaffolding in detail Two things drive the design: the reach a decorator needs across the facade, and what happens at ground level on a public footpath or narrow street. ### Materials used Standard tube and fitting scaffold with fully boarded lifts, guardrails and toe boards. Where the footpath has to stay open we use beams and bridging so standards land clear of the walkway, with protection to any exposed standards. Pedestrian protection, hoarding, lighting and high-visibility marking are added where the local authority licence requires them, and netting is available where dust, flakes or splashes need containing above a public route. ### Methods and sequencing We set lift heights to suit windows, cills, fascias and soffits, so joinery is worked at a comfortable height rather than from a stretch. The deck sits close enough to the wall to cut in cleanly. On street elevations, erection is sequenced to minimise disruption; often early starts before a shop opens; and the walkway is protected and reinstated before we leave site each day. ### Service variations Domestic repaints usually need a straightforward independent scaffold to the elevations being decorated, sometimes phased around the property to reduce hire cost. Town centre and commercial decoration typically needs a licensed footpath setup, bridged entrances, and coordination with the shop, pub or office so trading continues.
